Blue Mountains National Park
Attracting over 3 million visitors annually, Blue Mountains National Park holds some of Australia's most spectacular and diverse wilderness areas. Explore the Grose Valley, with its sheer sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and scenic walking, or enjoy the famous views of the Three Sisters. Easy access makes a day trips very worthwhile, but with such diversity it would be great to stay in one of the many B&B's and spend a few days soaking up the region.

Closed areas: Multiple areas in Blue Mountains National Park closed due to fire conditionsMultiple tracks and areas of Blue Mountains National Park are closed from Tuesday 3 December 2019 until further notice due to dangerous fire conditions. The closed areas include:
- Mount Solitary, Ruined Castle track, Narrow Neck, Glenraphael Drive and some southern Katoomba and Leura tracks
- Mount Hay, Point Pilcher, Perrys (Hat Hill), Victoria Falls, Mount Banks, Pierces Pass, McMahons lookout and Bedford roads
- Burramoko, Kedumba Valley and Mount Banks trails
- Dunphys, Perrys, Ingar and Murphys and remote campgrounds
- Glenbrook precinct, including Nepean fire trail and lookout, Red Hands Cave fire trail and track, Jack Evans track, Jelly Bean Pool and the Oaks fire trail
- Euroka campground (to be reviewed Friday 13 December 2019) and Burralow campground
- Six Foot track
- All remote walking tracks, canyons and rock climbing descending below cliffs out of Mount Wilson, Bell, Green Gully, south of Katoomba to Woodford and into the Grose Valley (excluding Grand Canyon).

Other incidents: Access to Dunphys campground restricted - Galong Creek bridge, Megalong Road, gross load limitThe Gross Load Limit on the timber bridge over Galong Creek in Blue Mountains National Park is 2.5 tonne. This will restrict access to Dunphys campground. For more information call the NPWS Blue Mountains Heritage Centre on 02 4787 8877.
Fire bans: Park fire banA park fire ban is in place in this park from Sunday 1 September 2019 and remains in effect until Tuesday 31 March 2020. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They're under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Partial closure - Echo Point lookoutPart of the Echo Point lookout in Katoomba is closed until August 2020 due to upgrades. The Visitor Information Centre remains open 9am to 5pm, seven days a week (except on Christmas Day). For more information visit

Safety alerts: Kanangra to Katoomba walk - water availability alertWalkers undertaking the Kanangra to Katoomba walk need to be aware that current water availability is very low at Dexs and Mobbs Swamp campgrounds. It is expected that water at these sites will dry up completely within the next couple of weeks. Walkers should not rely on these sites for replenishment of water supplies. The only reliable water on the K2K walk is located on the Coxes River.
Closed areas: Overcliff track closedOvercliff track will be closed for maintenance from Wednesday 21 August to Friday 13 December 2019.

Closed areas: Amphitheatre track closedAmphitheatre track is closed between Fern Bower and Leura Cascades Round walk due to a rockfall and the risk of further instability at the site. This closure means that the Leura Cascades and Fern Bower Circuit walk are not possible.

Closed areas: Ingar campground closedIngar campground and Ingar Road are closed to vehicle access due to private property building works. The closure is indefinite because it relates to access through the private property. No opening date can be advised. NPWS apologises for any inconvenience caused.
Ingar Road and Ingar campground can still be accessed by walkers and cyclists.

Closed areas: Prince Henry Cliff walking track - between Leura Cascades and Solitary restaurant Prince Henry Cliff walking track is closed between Leura Cascades and Solitary restaurant until further notice. This closure is due to a landslide that has completely blocked the track. An alternative track is available via Leura Cascades Round Walk. Visitors can also walk from Leura Cascades to Solitary restaurant adjacent Cliff Drive but should be wary of traffic.

Closed areas: Partial closure of Batsh campA section of Batsh camp is closed due to the risk of tree branches falling. Further assessment and removal of dangerous branches will take place in the coming weeks.

Closed areas: National Pass closedNational Pass remains closed between Valley of Waters and Slacks Stairs. The closure is indefinite following a serious rockfall in November 2017 which killed a worker and seriously injured two others. The area of the rockfall remains dangerous and the subject of external investigation. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is reviewing how such geological hazards and visitor access can be managed. Visitors can access the base of the Wentworth Falls below the Grand Stairs.
